🔍 Always Learning: Why Curiosity Is a Leader’s Superpower
One of the things I’ve learned in my own career, and in supporting leaders through change, is that the moment we think we’ve got it all figured out is usually the moment we start to slip behind.
The world around us doesn’t stand still. New technologies emerge, customer expectations shift, teams evolve and what worked yesterday won’t always carry us forward tomorrow.
That’s why curiosity matters.
Curiosity keeps us open. It pushes us to ask, “Is there a better way?” instead of defaulting to “This is how we’ve always done it.”
It’s not about constant reinvention for reinvention’s sake. It’s about staying willing to test, explore and stretch even when it’s uncomfortable, because growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones.
In my work with leaders, I see time and again that the ones who thrive in times of change aren’t the ones with all the answers. They’re the ones who keep learning, who try different approaches, who invite diverse perspectives and who model the courage to experiment and have the humility to say: “I don’t know, let’s find out together.”
👉 So here’s the challenge: What’s one new thing you can learn, explore or try this week?
Maybe it’s reading a book outside your usual field, asking a colleague how they’d approach a tricky problem, or simply pausing to reflect on whether your go-to habits are still serving you.
The best leaders are not finished products. They’re works in progress - always growing, always adapting, always curious.
💬 I’d love to hear: what’s something you’ve tried recently that challenged your thinking or gave you a fresh perspective?
🔍 The Coaching Mindset: Why Great Leaders Ask More Than They Tell
In leadership, it’s tempting to believe our value lies in having the answers. After all, experience, expertise and decision-making are part of why we’re in the role.
But in my work supporting leaders through cultural and organisational change, I’ve seen time and again that the most impactful leaders are not the ones who speak the most - they are the ones who ask the best questions.
Why?
Because telling solves the problem in front of you. Asking unlocks the thinking, ownership and capability to solve the next ten problems.
A coaching mindset shifts leadership from being the driver of solutions to being the enabler of potential. It builds -
Ownership - People are more committed to ideas they helped shape
Capability - Thinking muscles, like all other muscles, grow when they are used
Trust - Asking shows you value their perspective
It’s not about never telling - in moments of urgency or safety, clarity and direction are essential. But when the aim is to grow people, build resilience and embed change, questions are your superpower.
🧰 So next time you’re about to give an answer, pause and ask yourself - What’s a question I could ask instead that would help them figure this out themselves?
💬 In your leadership experience, what’s one powerful question that has shifted a conversation, a project or even a relationship?
One of my favourites is what have you already tried? It’s a simple way to uncover alternative ideas, explore options and give individuals ownership of their next steps.
